Retop and unwrap
Day 1-3
I am about 80% done with my retop at this point, I should of been beginning to texture at the start of this week but I am still behind and couldn't catch up over the weekend as I participated in the global game jam. However, I am confident I will be finished retopping by today and possibly finished unwrapping by tomorrow or Wednesday so I will still have a few days to texture and then I can finish it during my polish week or in my spare time during the next project.
Here is my current progress during retop:
Day 3-5
Retop is now finished and I am completely unwrapped and packed.
Here are my unwraps:
There are also 2 other small maps for the inner and outer eyes.
There were a lot of changes I had to make and it took me around 3 days overall just to bake to a good standard which was incredibly frustrating. A few problems i encountered were. really apparent seams where my normal map and AO didn't blend together, having duplicate objects (assets that have symmetry e.g the headdress) that affected my bake negatively and finally, my colour ID maps from my Zbruhsa poly paint were not baking at all.
At the end of this week I have fixed all of these problems minus the Colour ID map issue that I have asked my tutors with help with and Shane said he will spend some of his personal time to try and figure out the issue.
But now, I have finally got a decent looking base to begin texturing, I have cleaned up most of my maps in Photoshop and over the weekend I will create some colour variations in substance to plan out the fabrics/patterns etc.
Before Cleanup

After Cleanup

Finally, I had to change my UV maps a lot during this penultimate week, I have changed my texture budget around quite a lot from what I thought i was going to do in my brief. I have made a whole separate map for just the face, and a separate one for the body. So in total I have, the face, body, hair, clothing, accessory and eye maps. This is a bit more than I anticipated but I think its definitely more industry ready now and will overall look a million times better when i come to render.
